Record what is visible before belongings arrive

Walk through the accessible rooms and note any insects, existing marks or damaged packaging left behind. Write down the location and date and keep photographs you can take safely. An empty room is an opportunity to document observations, not proof that the home is pest-free.

Include maintenance concerns in the handover

Note visible leaks, openings around utilities and damaged door or window details. Report those observations to the responsible owner or manager and keep the correspondence. Describe each condition without assuming it explains a particular pest.

Ask who coordinates shared spaces

Find out how access to a basement, refuse room or other common area is arranged if needed. Keep the building contact details with your tenancy or move-in information. Questions about access are easier to resolve before a service appointment is being scheduled.

Keep uncertainty in the report

A stain or an unfamiliar insect may have several explanations. Seek identification instead of choosing a treatment from a photograph alone. If you request pest work, explain that you are moving in and ask what preparation or timing the actual proposal requires.
