Physical evidence is more useful than bites alone
Bed bugs can leave dark spotting, shed skins, rusty marks or live insects around mattress seams and bed frames. Bites alone are a poor indicator and can have other causes.
- Live insects or spotting around mattress seams
- Shed skins or marks near bed frames
- Unexplained fabric damage or insects around stored textiles
Record the rooms and belongings involved
Note the precise location and when signs first appeared. Avoid moving suspected infested belongings between rooms while you are arranging an assessment.
Fabric damage is a different clue
Carpet beetles, clothes moths and fleas are separate concerns from bed bugs. Explain whether the issue involves clothing, rugs, upholstered furniture or pet resting areas.
Preparation should fit the proposed work
Ask for written instructions before laundering, moving furniture or clearing rooms. Confirm which rooms and belongings are included, any access restrictions and how follow-up will be handled.
Can a bite photo confirm bed bugs?
No. Bites are not reliable identification on their own. Physical signs and an assessment provide a better basis for deciding what happens next.
